AFRICA and the PHILIPPINES come to Newquay Zoo

BRONZE Visitor Attraction of the Year 2008 (Cornwall Tourism Awards)
SILVER Visitor Attraction of the Year 2007-2008 (South West Tourism Excellence Awards)

New for 2009 is a wonderful AFRICAN SAVANNA exhibit with three acres of grassland including stunning Wildebeest, entertaining Ostriches, fun tusky Warthogs, beautiful and elegant Zebra, Waterbuck and Nyala Antelope.
Another new exhibit highlights some unusual Philippine species. The Visayan Warty Pig, Fishing Cat and Philippine Spotted Deer are all under threat and will become another important part of the breeding programmes at the Zoo.
Award winning and set amongst exotic lakeside gardens, Newquay Zoo is home to hundreds of animals from all around the world.

While at the zoo you can enjoy fascinating talks and feeding times throughout the day. See our very popular otter family playing in the stream in the Oriental Garden, which is also home to rare and endangered animals like Owston’s Civets from Vietnam and odd-looking Hornbills from Asia. Look out for meerkats on sentry duty, penguins playing in their pool, beautiful Red Pandas and glimpse the strange and endangered lemurs and fossa.

The Tropical House is an atmospheric exhibit with an open jungle rainforest enclosure where you can spend time spotting, amongst the temple ruins, a variety of exotic animals including sloths, toucans, monkeys and toads. See displays about the zoo’s overseas conservation work and visit the minibeasts room with snakes, skinks, dart frogs and other creepy crawlies.

There’s Fun for all age groups with plenty of delights for children including the Tarzan trail, a children’s play area, the village farm and the Dragon maze. Face painting is available on most days during the summer.

There is plenty of seating and picnic areas plus why not taste the delights of the Café Lemur restaurant, Tippy’s snack bar or a summer barbecue by the lake.

Newquay Zoo was the first attraction in Cornwall to achieve a GOLD accreditation from the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) where award winners have to demonstrate that they are taking action in a wide range of areas such as energy and water efficiency, waste reduction, support for local suppliers, ethical products and contributing to wildlife and the environment.
