People from all over the country - and even overseas - visit Newquay for its beaches, surfing, and local attractions. However, to some, there is an added prerequisite before a holiday destination can be considered complete – the golf courses. People who don’t play golf cannot truly comprehend the joys of playing in wide open spaces, the complex social dynamics and bonding among playing partners, the medicinal effect that perfectly landscaped courses can have on the soul – the list is long; which is why we’re happy to note that Newquay offers a variety of high quality golf courses that can fulfil practically every taste. To start you off, check out our list of the top three golf courses in Newquay.
The 6,141 yards, par 60 course stretches along the length of the world famous Fistral Beach, and yet, because of its elevation, golfers can play in relative silence and solitude. Naturally, the elevation also exposes the course to the challenges of the capricious coastal winds, which can change direction in a blink of the eye. However, set aside any fears of a stressful time on the 127-year-old course as the spectacular view of the coastline and the mighty Atlantic will sooth away all your worries. Chances are, after completing the 18-hole course, you will return to the clubhouse feeling even more energetic than when you started.
The par 72 championship course here, designed by the legendary Harry Shapland Colt, is considered one of the most highly rated link golf courses in the U.K. Measuring approximately 7079 yards, the course takes off the sting of its strategically placed sand dunes and bunkers with a breath taking view of Cornwall’s northern coast. Trevose also boasts of two more nine-hole courses which are designed for beginners and intermediate golfers, as well as for those running short on daylight (because sometimes, a 5 p.m. tee off is crucial for a good night’s sleep).
The 6,110 yards, par 70 parkland course is a lush garden of delight. Since Lanhydrock also provides accommodation, dining and a host of other amenities, you could literally spend your entire vacation camped inside the majestic trees here without stepping foot on the beach even once. After all, the beach and surfing is not for everyone. By the way, the Nineteen Bistro and Bar serves arguably the best steak in Newquay.
